I upgraded my Macbook Pro to the latest OS X version, 10.11, also known as "El Capitan", and after I did that, the usual issue with the Sametime Client occured....
The App just wouldn´t start.
The fix for me was to download and install the "Java for OS X 2015-001".
So, if you´re facing the same issue, try this.

whoa. thank you!
Glad to help :-)
thanks - it worked ; although I see this is an older java version, so hoping there is not an impact to other apps or a security exposure.
Good to hear.
I haven't checked what the latest version is. Good point. I haven't noticed any impact but, as you say, there might be security exposure running an old Java version. I'll check to see if newer version also works.
THANK YOUUUUU!!!! My IT people do not know Macs at all so had to figure it out on my own. Thank you so much, I feel like a genius for getting it to work!! (Thanks to you!!) I AM MY OWN IT PERSON YEAHHH! =D
Hi Kelly. This is the happiest comment I´ve seen so far :-D
Glad to be of assistance.
Thanks for this. I was hunting for a solution and it worked right out of the box.
